LuminaQSR
The brand takes the hit, not whoever made the food.
A quick-service brand answers for food it did not make, served in restaurants it may not own. Lumina starts where the record starts: live today for the checks, readings and issues in a restaurant or a central kitchen. The view across every restaurant and supplier is what we are building next.
The gap
Outsourced manufacturing is not outsourced risk.
The liability stays on your label, while the evidence sits with your suppliers and your restaurants: certificates and lab results in PDFs, checks on paper, corrective actions in email.
Upstream, a supplier program runs on documents: certifications, audit reports, certificates of analysis, specifications and corrective-action requests, each arriving as a file and checked by hand.
Downstream, every restaurant runs its own checks: walk-in and holding temperatures, sanitizer, the opening walk. Health inspections land one location at a time. When a complaint comes in, tying it to a lot, a supplier or a shift means pulling records from places that do not talk to each other.
60%
of US foodborne outbreaks with contributing-factor data, 2014–2022, involved food prepared in a restaurant: 1,610 of 2,677 (CDC, MMWR Surveillance Summaries, 2025).
9.4%
of the same outbreaks listed improper cooling as a contributing factor: 251 of 2,677 (CDC, MMWR Surveillance Summaries, 2025).
1 in 4
of recalls estimated to cost more than $30 million (GMA, Capturing Recall Costs, 2011, 36 respondents).
Live today
One restaurant's record, or one kitchen's, live today.
- 01
Restaurant checks as forms
Walk-in and holding temperatures, sanitizer and the opening walk, filled on a phone with the time they were done, even with no signal. A reading out of range asks for the corrective action.
- 02
Ask, at the counter
Your SOPs and food safety manual in the Library. Ask answers a manager's question on the phone from those documents only, cites the passage, and says so when they cannot support an answer.
- 03
Supplier documents, searchable
Certificates, audit reports, specifications and COAs stored in the Library, searchable and cited by Ask. A supplier nonconformance is tracked as an issue with an owner and a due date.
- 04
Incidents, closed with the clock
A complaint, a failed check or an inspection finding becomes an issue with an owner and a due date, and the record shows who closed it and when.
Live on the web and in the mobile app (iOS and Android), offline included. Not yet deployed in a restaurant. We're looking for the design partners who will run it first.
What comes next
Next: every restaurant and every supplier, in one record.
The food's safety record should travel with the food, from supplier to counter. We are building the network that holds it, and a sensor to add to it.
- 01
Every restaurant, one view
Checks, readings and issues from every location, rolled up for the brand and ranked by where the risk is. Not built yet.
- 02
Your suppliers' record, on their terms
A supplier running Lumina could share its monitoring results, corrective actions and closures with the brand, under terms the supplier controls. Not built yet.
- 03
A sensor in the kitchen
Lumina Detect, lab-demonstrated and in build, designed to read pathogen-risk signatures off prep and food-contact surfaces between the checks a restaurant already runs.
None of the three runs in a restaurant today. Your suppliers' testing and certifications and your own audits stay the record, and a sensor flag is never a release criterion. See how the sensor works →
Design partners
Bring a test kitchen, a central kitchen or one restaurant, and the person who owns its food safety. We will build the record around them.
No fee during the pilot, and converting is your decision on the measured result. The post-pilot price is in writing before it starts.
