LuminaBeef

One trim surface becomes many lots.

Fabrication multiplies a surface event. A screen comes back the next day; a confirmed STEC positive takes four days at FSIS's lab. Lumina is the record that closes that gap: live today for the lab results, checks and issues on your floor, with a line-side sensor in build.

The gap

There is no tolerance to work with.

E. coli O157:H7 has been an adulterant in raw ground beef since 1994. Six more STEC serogroups were added for raw non-intact beef in 2011, with FSIS trim testing from 2012. A positive lot is cooked or destroyed. If it already shipped, it is a recall.

Contamination arrives as a surface event: hide-to-carcass transfer at dressing, a knife, a belt, a saw. Fabrication multiplies it. One contaminated trim surface spreads across a combo, and a combo across a day of grind.

Detection runs the other way. An N60 or cloth sample reads a thin layer off 60 pieces of a lot of trim, once. The screen is back the next day, and a presumptive positive takes four days to confirm at FSIS's lab. The cost lands as margin: inventory on test-and-hold, every lot that shares its source material implicated by one positive, and interventions run toward the top of their validated range because nobody can see whether they need to be.

Live today

The record of a beef plant, before a sensor is mounted.

  1. 01

N60 and surface results, pinned where they were taken

Lab reports parsed into structured results, matched to the sample and pinned to the point it came from. A positive files an issue by itself, with an owner and a due date.

  2. 02

    Intervention readings and supplier checks

Organic acid concentration and hot-water and steam-vacuum temperatures where you run them, each with the range it should stay in. For grinders, a supplier COA check on a form for every lot before it is ground.

  3. 03

Holds that need a decision, with their clock

A presumptive positive, an out-of-range intervention, product held past its slot: what is held, why, who owns it and when it closed. One clock for production, sanitation and QA.

  4. 04

    Your plan, cited

Your HACCP plan, SSOPs, sampling program, 9 CFR 310, 320, 416 and 417, and FSIS Directive 10,010.1 in the Library. Ask answers only from them, cites the passage, and says so when they cannot support an answer.

Live on the web and in the mobile app (iOS and Android), offline included. Not yet deployed at a plant. We're looking for the design partners who will run it first.

In build

A sensor for the surfaces between your samples.

Lumina Detect is a line-side sensor, lab-demonstrated and in build, designed to read pathogen-risk signatures off a surface in milliseconds and tell your program where the next swab should go.

  1. 01

    Fabrication and trim surfaces

Tables, belts, saw tables and the conveyors into the combo. Designed to mount on its own bracket beside the line, with no PLC integration.

  2. 02

    Pre-operational inspection

Designed to give the pre-op inspection a reading of the surfaces a flashlight misses, and to flag one that did not come clean. The startup call stays with QA.

  3. 03

    Further out: carcass surfaces

Whether the carcass leaving an intervention cabinet reads cleaner than the one entering it, on this shift, at chain speed. It would not validate the intervention. Reading product on the line is the longer-term work.

A surface measurement: the surface of a carcass, a trim piece or a belt, not the interior of intact muscle, read as risk signatures at colony scale, not single cells. Confirmatory testing stays the record of your program, and a sensor flag is never a release criterion. See how the sensor works →

Design partners

Bring one line, its N60 program and the person who owns them. We will build the record around them.

No fee during the pilot, and converting is your decision on the measured result. The post-pilot price is in writing before it starts.
